ARYADUTA BALI PRESENTS “RUPA PELINDUNG” A Recycle Art Exhibition by Agus Kurniawan
This interactive activity embodies unity, creativity and shared responsibility for protecting culture and the planet.
TRIBUN-BALI.COM - ARYADUTA Bali is proud to present 'Rupa Pelindung', a recycled art exhibition by the talented artist and ARYADUTA Bali team member, Agus Kurniawan. The exhibition officially opens on
Wednesday, 29 October 2025 and invites guests to explore the beauty of transformation
through art created from recycled materials.
The opening night will begin with a theatrical poetry performance by Komunitas Aghumi titled
'Rupa Pelindung – Untuk ARYADUTA, untuk Bumi Yang Kembali Bernapas' (Rupa Pelindung –
For ARYADUTA, for a breathing planet). This performance reflects the essence of the Barong
as a guardian of balance, a spirit that protects, nurtures and restores harmony to the Earth.
Through powerful verses and visual movement, the performance symbolises how discarded
materials can find new life and meaning, echoing the exhibition's message that discarded items
can still protect and inspire.

Afterwards, everyone is invited to contribute to a collaborative painting of the Rangda mask,
symbolising the eternal balance between good and evil: 'Art, Balance, and Protection: The Spirit
of Barong'. This interactive activity embodies unity, creativity and shared responsibility for
protecting culture and the planet.
“Rupa Pelindung”, meaning “The Face of a Protector”, draws inspiration from the legend of
Barong, Bali’s mythical guardian who symbolises the balance between good and evil. The
exhibition features nine masterpieces of recycled art, crafted by Agus Kurniawan from discarded
materials such as cardboard, paper, and metal frame. Each piece is available to buy, with prices
ranging from IDR 2,000,000 to IDR 10,000,000.
As part of the Asta Karya campaign by ARYADUTA Bali, the exhibition reflects the hotel’s
commitment to sustainability and compassion. A special collaborative piece created by Agus
Kurniawan and the children of Yayasan Peduli Kemanusiaan will be displayed and sold, with all
proceeds going to the foundation. Children's paintings from the foundation will also be on
display, adding vibrant colours and heartfelt messages of hope. These artworks will also be
available to buy, with prices ranging from IDR 500,000 to IDR 4,500,000.
Innovation plays a key role in Asta Karya. In collaboration with AYENA Studio, ARYADUTA Bali
is introducing a photobooth offering an Augmented Reality (AR) experience. Here, guests can
enjoy a character animation inspired by The Legend of Barong, featuring the Super Neli
character.
This collaboration continues in the guest rooms, where AR cards bring digital
storytelling to life, inviting guests to go on a treasure hunt and discover Super Neli throughout
the hotel, from the lobby to the most hidden corners. This offers guests a playful and immersive
experience.
Throughout his career, Agus Kurniawan has achieved success in over 20 national and
international competitions. He is particularly proud to have received commemorative prizes at
the 24th and 27th Harbin International Snow Sculpture Competitions in China in 2019 and 2025,
as well as the Individual Practical Fruits & Vegetables Carving Award at the Indonesian Culinary
Challenge (FBI–ICA Chef Expo 2025), which was held at JIEXPO Kemayoran in Jakarta.
“This is my first art exhibition, and I’m deeply grateful to ARYADUTA Bali for making my dream
come true,” he said. 'It took almost three weeks to complete these artworks, and I couldn’t have
done it without the help of many of my colleagues. We share the same spirit and purpose for
this exhibition. I hope everyone can feel the message of balance, just like Barong and Rangda
— two opposing forces that demonstrate that harmony exists when both sides coexist.”
'This initiative reminds us that we need to be modern Barongs every day, not just on special
occasions,' said Gladys Monica Solang, Marketing & Communication Manager at ARYADUTA
Bali. ‘Protection starts with small actions, such as sorting our rubbish, avoiding unnecessary
packaging and being mindful of our consumption. Small things become powerful when done
together. Just look at how Agus transformed cardboard and paper into beautiful masterpieces
— let's spread the message and become protectors ourselves.”
Representing the hotel’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and employee
empowerment, Yester Simanullang, Assistant Director of Human Resources at ARYADUTA
Bali, shared:
"Through Rupa Pelindung, we highlight the importance of sustainability and celebrate the
creativity of our team. Agus is a wonderful example of how talent can flourish when given the
right environment and support. This exhibition reflects our belief that every team member has
potential that extends beyond their daily responsibilities. We are proud to see how his art
inspires others to protect, create and care for the world around us.’
‘Rupa Pelindung’ embodies the core values of Asta Karya: creativity, culture and community. It
serves as a reminder that beauty can emerge from waste and that protection begins with
awareness. For more information about future events and offerings, please visit
